Possible Canal Closures

Mariners are advised that heavy rainfall has been predicted along much of the Canal System in the next 48 hours which will likely result in the closure of certain sections of the Canal, as high water, excessive current and debris in those areas renders navigation unsafe.



Certain water levels on the Canal System, particularly along the Erie Canal in the Mohawk River basin, may initially be lower than normal as the Canal Corporation takes preemptive steps to lower levels and build storage in advance of the precipitation.



Updates or schedules for actual closures will be published as soon as possible.
