Day 21
Logged 3225.9 nm - 345.8 nm left to go.
Very slow overcast day yesterday. At 20:00 the skys lit up with lightening and thunder and the biggest downpour ever. Remained this way till 07:00 this morning. What a night. We were not expecting this weather as the reports said we would only encounter severe weather at the 057 latitude.
It was a most uncomfortable night for all as there were virtually no winds which did not permit us to deploy more then a small triangle of genoa to try to stablize the boat. The seas where calm which emphazied the rolling of the boat even more. We did have some high winds of about 28 knots that lasted 10 minutes when the storm was at it's peak.
To top it off, we have been fighting a cross current since the night before and yesterday we saw up to 2.4 knots of current against us. With the motor turning at 1800 rpm we barely could do 3 knots and sometimes only 2. Needless to say we are little disappointed this morning as it does not look like we will arrive on Monday but rather Tuesday. Oh well, everyone is healthy , somewhat dry, and there is plenty to eat.
I finished my 5th book this morning with only one left to go. Let's hope I do not finish this one. Forecast calls for light winds till our arrival. Glad we had extra fuel. We will pour our last 6 jerry cans into the fuel tank today and hope that we can continue to motor all the way in.
