On April 15, 2015 at 9:45 pm, the beloved and famous Exuma Straw Market caught fire. Even worse, the straw market was stocked full in anticipation of the upcoming family island regatta that brings thousands of visitors to the island.
The hard working women of the straw market had stocked it with straw crafts, gifts, t-shirts, and souvenirs of all kinds in expectation of their biggest sales event of the year.
The entire building burned to the ground in a matter of minutes. As you may remember, most of their goods were all handmade by dozens of local island vendors.
